Alice Absolutely
Alice Absolutely is a third-generation Floridian whose connection to this state runs bone-deep. She grew up on the Chain of Lakes in Polk County, spending her days on the water and playing in the dirt, learning the landscape long before she ever thought to paint it.
The Work:
Her Florida Field Guide series begins in the field — observing and photographing native and threatened species — then translates that fieldwork into detailed paint carvings on wood panel. The results are striking: scientific in their attention, emotional in their impact.
Taking It on the Road:
Through a mobile, gallery-style exhibition, Alice brings her work directly into public spaces across Florida. Audiences get to stand face-to-face with the species, habitats, and environmental realities that define the state — conservation education delivered as fine art.
Her Florida:
Estero Bay’s mangrove forests hold a special place for her — a place she and her husband have returned to again and again over the years. “That estuary, especially by kayak, offers a quiet, close view of coastal Florida that feels both expansive and intimate at the same time.”
