Ashton Stepter
Ashton Stepter is the founder of ASP & Co., a place-based documentary practice focused on coastal environments, heritage communities, and the cultural life that forms around water. Ashton grew up visiting family in South Florida, always dreamed of living here, and now calls the Tampa Bay area home.
The Work:
As an embedded documentarian, he builds long-form visual and written records of places that deserve more than a passing glance. Through photography and writing, Ashton documents the coastal communities, working waterfronts, and heritage corridors that make Florida far more layered than its tourism identity suggests.
One Frame, Two Floridas:
On the shoreline of Honeymoon Island State Park, Ashton photographed a wild beach marked by storm and tide, with the high-rise skyline of Clearwater Beach standing just across the water. The weight of that image hit months later. Wild Florida and developed Florida sat in a single sightline, separated by a decision.
What He Brings to Wild Florida:
A documentarian’s eye for the Florida Wildlife Corridor as both an ecological story and a cultural one. For him, wild Florida includes the bays and the people who worked them, and the communities still holding on along the coast.
